Situation
19 March 2026 marked OPNET's transition from vision to live infrastructure. This was not a soft launch or a testnet milestone — it was a category entry into native Bitcoin DeFi, representing the first time complex financial applications could run directly on the Bitcoin blockchain without relying on wrapped assets, bridges, or off-chain solutions.
Bitcoin had long been constrained by its inability to natively support smart contracts and decentralised finance. Existing solutions required workarounds: Layer-2 protocols, wrapped BTC, or cross-chain bridges — each introducing trust assumptions that undercut Bitcoin's core value proposition. The broader market was hungry for a genuinely native answer, and OPNET arrived at precisely the right moment in the conversation.
The challenge for Genius PR was to position this mainnet launch not merely as a product announcement, but as a paradigm-shifting moment for the entire Bitcoin ecosystem — earning the kind of Tier 1 editorial coverage that would establish OPNET as the definitive infrastructure layer for native Bitcoin DeFi.
Task
Our mandate was to transform OPNET's mainnet launch into a category-defining media moment. This required far more than a standard press release distribution. We needed to craft a narrative compelling enough for the world's most influential crypto publications to adopt it as their own editorial frame — not simply as a quote from a press release.
In practical terms, the task encompassed:
- Messaging & Narrative Development: Identify the sharpest story angles — native DeFi, no bridges, BTC as gas — that would make OPNET's launch undeniably newsworthy for crypto journalists across technical and mainstream audiences.
- Media Targeting: Pinpoint the Tier 1 outlets and individual journalists who cover Bitcoin infrastructure, blockchain innovation, and DeFi protocol launches — prioritising editorial coverage over paid placements.
- Thought Leadership Pre-Seeding: Publish bylines and opinion pieces in advance of the mainnet launch to prime the market and build OPNET's authority in the Bitcoin DeFi conversation before the big moment.
- Multi-Format Execution: Secure coverage across articles, technical deep-dives, and podcast features to reach both retail audiences and the developer/technical community.
- Narrative Consistency: Ensure every placement — regardless of outlet, format, or audience — reinforced the same three core messages: Native Bitcoin DeFi, No Bridges, No Wrapped BTC, and BTC as Gas.

Rather than leading with technical specifications, we built the campaign around a single, ownable claim: OPNET is the first genuinely native DeFi infrastructure on Bitcoin. Every other Bitcoin DeFi solution had required compromises — wrapped assets, Layer-2 trust assumptions, or off-chain computation. OPNET eliminated all of them.
We strategically highlighted three narrative pillars across all outreach:

- BTC as Gas: Native utility without a new token, without a network fork. OPNET expands Bitcoin's capabilities from within, preserving its core principles while dramatically expanding its application surface.

Ahead of the mainnet launch, we secured two thought leadership bylines that began building OPNET's authority in the Bitcoin DeFi space:
